The rapper DMX, 50, would be in very serious condition after suffering a heart attack. TMZ reports that DMX, real name Earl Simmons, had a drug overdose on Friday night around 11pm at his New York home which resulted in a heart attack. He was transferred to a hospital in White Plains, New York, and is in the intensive care unit.
According to sources, it has “some brain activity” while others claim it is in a “vegetative state”. Other musicians and rappers, since this morning have been supporting the sad news on social media by sharing prayers for they have answered the sad news by sharing their prayers and their support, including Missy Elliott and Ja Rule.
The musician has been open about his struggles with illegal drug use and has spoken about entering rehab in 2019 after serving time in federal prison on a tax fraud conviction. A Manhattan federal court found that he failed to pay $1.7 million in taxes from 2000 to 2005, by shifting money among accounts belonging to managers and associates.
His debut album in 1998 “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot,” was listed as number one on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States and sold more than 5 million copies. DMX is also known for his acting role in “Romeo Must Die,” and for hits including “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” (2003), “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” (1997) and “Party Up (Up in Here)” (1999). The moniker “DMX” is short for his full stage name, “Dark Man X.” Most recently, DMX battled fellow rapper Snoop Dogg during Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s popular web series “Verzuz” in July 2020.
DMX remains at a hospital in White Plains, New York, where he was rushed late Friday night after suffering a heart attack.
